Jeromie replaced our water heaters a week ago. Apparently some debris got in the line which clogged the kitchen faucet. Jeromie and Joe worked for a long time to completely disassemble the faucet to clear the problem. When that did not correct the problem it took a call to the manufacturer to find a hidden backflow valve that was dirty and causing the problem . I want to acknowledge Jeremy’s positive attitude and tenacity to arrive at a successful conclusion. Thank you for a job well done.
In an older home, it's sometimes necessary to repair and upgrade plumbing fixtures. This section shows you how to repair both a gas water heater and an electric water heater. Plus, you'll learn how to install an electric water heater, a water filter, and an on-demand water heater. Other basic skills—such as increasing water pressure and maintaining both a water pump and a water softener—are also covered.
Plumbers, pipefitters, and steamfitters may use many different materials and construction techniques, depending on the type of project. Residential water systems, for example, use copper, steel, and plastic pipe that one or two plumbers can install. Power plant water systems, by contrast, are made of large steel pipes that usually take a crew of pipefitters to install. Some workers install stainless steel pipes on dairy farms and in factories, mainly to prevent contamination.
Of course, some repairs are easier and quicker to handle than others. Some are a major hassle—particularly those that involve working on pipes that are hidden behind walls or under floors or are otherwise difficult to access. This doesn’t mean you can’t do them yourself, it just means you may need a little more instruction, a few more tools, and a load of patience.
Most large cities today pipe solid wastes to sewage treatment plants in order to separate and partially purify the water, before emptying into streams or other bodies of water. For potable water use, galvanized iron piping was commonplace in the United States from the late 1800s until around 1960. After that period, copper piping took over, first soft copper with flared fittings, then with rigid copper tubing utilizing soldered fittings.
